Temporary Gap In Postings

There will be a temporary gap in postings. Saturday before last, we went to Pineywoods Purgatory and had a great ride. I had some of the pictures lined up for the write-up and was going to post it last Monday after our routine Monday Group Ride.

About half way through our ride, we do a turn around on Spillway Road. After a re-group, we continue the ride. However, on this ride, as I started my turn around, I hit some loose gravel. My front tire went out from beneath me and I landed on my forearm and left hip.

You guessed it.

Broken hip.

I have a new hip ball and socket. I was released from the hospital Friday and will begin physical therapy tomorrow and the slow road to recovery.

I hope everyone will be able to continue riding over the fall/winter season. As for me, the doctor has only indicated that he is sure I will be able to ride the Ride Through the Pines next March.

I hope to start posting again next month when I think I will be mobile and at least be able to get into and out of a chair by myself.

  1. I"m glad ou are relatively OK and expected to be back on the bike relatively soon.

My Dad got hit by a car while riding 8 days ago. At 78 lets just say he won't be getting back on a bike. EVER. But he is still alive, So I'll take it. Recovery will take a very long time and not be easy. He's out of ICU and may soon be moved to rehab. I"ll settle for him recognizing all the family members again.

I'm glad you were wearing your helmet.

  2. GASP!!! Oh Roy, the pain! So sad to hear this, but happy you are on the road to recovery and will live to ride again. Our son broke his hip on Christmas Day skiing when he was 16. Forever I will associate hips with that time. Be strong and work hard at your rehab....I know you will. Condolences to Christine who will be working hard to nurse you thru the worst. (Men are such babies when they are sick.) I will be waiting in the wings to hear your news next month, or sooner when you get bored sitting around watching the grass grow. It will be snowing here by then.
    Blessings,Rosemary

  3. I rode the Pineywoods Purgatory like you. I heard about a couple of crashes but I did not hear any names or details. Sorry to hear about your accident. I wish you a speedy recovery and that you get back on the bicycle when you should.

  4. OH, NO!!!! That's an awful way to end the year. On the bright side, your training will get you through the recovery faster than most and it's a very good sign that your doctor sees you riding sooner than later.
Take care and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
