Copperas Cove Classic

The Cove House
 ClassicAugust 14, 2021
Copperas Cove, Texas
Line up time was 7:00 a.m. I am not sure of the count, but there was a good turn out.
This was our first time to ride at Copperas Cove.

We had riden Lampasas just a few years ago, so we knew there were plenty of hills. This is Hill Country afterall. If one has a long memory, Lampasas was the ride when we had an 11% grade hill before we ever got out of town.
At least Copperas Cove let us get out of town before the hills started.

Christine, of course, leading the way. The ride was timed and she was 6th overall. I finished.

Inclines may not be impressive while sitting in a comfortable computer chair, but they were more challanging while sitting on a brick called a saddle, especially when there was one hill after another.

These are not flat stretches. We were going either uphill or down hill.

If you want to challenge yourself with hills then this is the ride for you.

Finish line. I hate to admit that I stuggled the last 10 miles of 50. Excuses, excuses, as to why I wasn/t at least 7th overall. We will have to return next year and see if I can blame my chemo/radiation/therapy after effects , age. or just the hills.

Peach Pedal

There was a good turn out for the ride. I took pictures of the line up, and of course one of Christine. But it was way into the ride that I discovered that one of my camera's latches was loose and I hadn't been taking any pictures.

Astute readers will have noticed that most to the pictures thus far have been on level roads. That was not reality, however, the roads were a little rougher this year and I was afraid to let loose of the handle bar as I am tired of falling over.
Finally caught up to Christine at a rest stop. Her vicious smile told me that she was about to drop me again.

Not sure which rest stop this was, but all were well stocked with goodies and friendly volenteers.

Finally I was able to take a shot of an upcoming long climb. None was extremely steep, just ones that could wear a rider down.

Last rest stop. Another good ride. We appreciate the event as many of the tours are still cancelled this year. And thanks to all the volunteers who made the event possible.
